Alzheimers Association
19th Annual Memory Walk/5k Run
I was pleased to join a fun loving group of people who gathered this morning to supprt the Hawaii Alzheimers Association.
Peter Skaaning
The Honolulu Design Center and Peter Skaaning sponsored a team of about 30 people to walk the 3.1 mile course around the scenic Ala Moana Beach Park. We were blessed with good vibes and warm weather.
Ready, Set…
Hundreds of people lined up and took off at the sound of the cannon at 7 AM sharp, and then crossed the finish line in 40 minutes to one and a half hour later to enjoy music and food.

It’s always good to see companies and people supporting worthwhile charities, and this is surely a good one.
I wonder how much money was raised as a result of this one event, and what was the major driving factor that got people to participate.
In the former post I was blown away by the amount of money that Brighton raised to dig those wells in Africa. From the looks of it, the driving force just may have been the passion of that one girl; the owner’s daughter. The problem has been there for a very long time; the solution was sudden.

When a good cause is the center of attention, then why not get our employees involved. Some of them felt that 7AM was just a bit too early but those of us that got up and started the day with a brisk walk, great scenery and lots of fresh air will have a great day! I thought about you Ron, that takes this walk daily and how “energizing” it really is to get up early and “start moving”. I am sure it enables those to get much more done during the course of the day……with better energy and bigger smiles! Cheers, Peter

I read an article in Newsweek awhile back that as much as 50% of the Alzheimers cases are actually mad cow disease… interesting?

This was a first walk for me. I’ve never really gotten involved in any type of event such as this. The feeling I felt having many people wanting to participate made me realize it was well worth it.
The Alzheimer’s Association has helped my family and I a lot in understanding what this disease is and how to cope and to be more involved as a care giver. I believe things happen for a reason and through everything I’ve been through I believe it has made me a better person.
There are many things we are called to do in this world and helping your family is one of them.
Thank you to all who participated. It was a great event and I hope to do this again next year.
