“And In This Corner…”

The Playoffs Begin
Watching this year’s political antics has been a side show perhaps like no other. Tonight’s debate will go down in history as one of the most watched TV events of all time.

Ali vs. Liston
This event conjurs up images of Muhamad Ali and Sonny Liston. I’m not saying who’s who here.

Celebrities and Politics
It has all of the ingredients we saw in the OJ Simpson murder trial and the Richard Nixon Watergate expose. I’m not saying who’s who here.
People root for their favorite football, baseball and basketball teams. We have the World Series, The Super Bowl and the NBA Playoffs.

Tyson vs. Spinks
We saw ”Iron Mike” Tyson and Michael Spinks. There are “TV Debate Parties” being held all across the country this evening, and the sports bars will be packed with “fans” just waiting to see their favorite candidate throw the knock out punch.

I have stated in previous posts that I am not a fan of the two party system. My problem with it, is that it insures division. Regardless of the outcome, roughly half of the people in the United States will be unhappy with the result and begin finding faults with our new leader. Having half of the country disagree with anything you do must make for the toughest job in the world, and unfortunately it may just keep the best, most qualified people out of the race entirely.

I agree with you Ron. Divided WE fall. United WE stand. The problem seems to be most people’s inability to to see the connection between ME and WE.

  2. mauijeff Says:

I just hope Barack is asked about his connection with Bill Ayers, Tony Rezko, and Rev Wright!!! all mentors of Obama in his own words!

  3. mauijeff Says:

and his financial advisor… former CEO of Fannie Mae!!!

    “Knockout - Obama”
Barack Obama sent McCain to the canvas for the count of 10. He not only looked presidential, but he spoke intelligently.

  5. Art Larsen Says:

McCain obviously would not be able to look into the eye of a world leader adversary; hell, he couldn’t even make eye contact with Obama. This was a mismatch.

  6. Reality Check Says:

Senator McCain ruled this debate. He’s a proven warrior that knows how to win in Iraq, and be the president of the United States.

  7. Bethany Duncan Says:

Following the debate there was an interview with democratic VP Joe Biden. They made it a point to mention that Sarah “Who” was invited and declined. What’s that all about? In case you can’t figure it out, here’s what it is. The republican party is embarrassed by McCain’s VP choice, and have her holed up somewhere.
I am predicting that if McCain makes it all the way to November, Sarah Palin won’t be on the ticket. Want a clue? Look at who filled in for her tonight; NY Mayor, Rudy; that’s who he should have picked to begin with.

  8. Dan Morrow Says:

It was John Kennedy vs. Richard Nixon all over again. The up and coming, refreshing candidate vs. the unsure sneaky dude.
Kennedy won, and they had to kill him to eventually get Tricky Dick into the White House.

  9. Char Rhodes Says:

Your Vote can make a difference. Remember:

In 1649, one vote caused Charles the 1 of England to be executed
In 1776, one vote gave American the English language instead of German
In 1845, one vote brought Texas into the Union
In 1868, One vote saved President Andrew Johnson from impeachment
In 1876, one vote gave Rutherford B. Hayes the US Presidency
In 1923, one vote gave Adolf Hitler leadership of the Nazi party
In 1941, one vote saved the selective service, just weeks before the bombing of Pearl Harbor

It is up to each and every one of you to make a decision and vote.

It boils down to what you believe in… Capitalism vs Socialism… your choice

  11. Maryann Anderson Says:

The best comeback comment of all was when Barack said, “I have a bracelet too John. The mother that gave it to me asked me to be sure that no other mother would have to go through what she did.”
John McCain may be “proud as punch” of our fallen war heros, but Barack Obama is right when he said, “We shouldn’t have gone in there in the first place.”
4,000 plus American boys have died needlessly in a stupid war fueled by ego and greed in Washington. ENOUGH Already; let’s get the Hell out of there, and NOW!

  12. Freedom Fighter Says:

Please read the e-mail I just received from Barack Obama,
After the debate Barack was on his computer e-mailing to his supporters to be certain they got the gist of his message in the debate.
My guess is that John McCain passed out and slept like a log. The energy Barack shows is what it takes to run this country. John is a tired old man that should be home with his feet up. The guy would never last as president, and then we would have that mad woman in Alaska running the show. EEEEEK!

    Friend —

I just finished my first debate with John McCain.
Millions of Americans finally got a chance to see us take on the fundamental choice in this election — the change we need or more of the same.
I will provide tax cuts for the middle class, affordable health care, and a new energy economy that creates millions of jobs. John McCain wants to keep giving huge tax cuts to corporations, and he offered no solutions for the challenges Americans are facing in their daily lives.
I will end the war in Iraq responsibly, focus on defeating al Qaeda and the Taliban, and restore America’s standing in the world after eight years of disastrous policies. John McCain wants an unending commitment in Iraq and fails to recognize the resurgent threat in Afghanistan.
Let’s be clear: John McCain is offering nothing but more of the same failed Bush policies at home and abroad that he has supported more than 90% of the time in the Senate.
Americans need change now, and I need your help to get the word out about this movement.
In the coming days, it’s going to be up to you to organize locally and reach the voters that are going to decide this election.
Now’s the time to make your voice heard.

Thank you for all that you’re doing,

  13. Tam Says:

All I can say is that the debate helped cement my support of my choice - Bob Barr…

Both major candidates seem more concerned with scoring points, pandering to different groups or sides… gaining power, instead of what is best for this country, and actually Constitutional.

The loser of the debate: America and the voters…
