Lonely Santa at Ala Moana
No Waiting
I felt a bit sorry for the Ala Moana Santa Claus this year as I saw him sitting there all alone most of the time with an empty knee. I remember the lines being very long throughout the entire season. What’s happened?
Same Day - Apple Store
Meanwhile at the same time that I snapped the shot of Santa Claus I took this one from the doorway of the Apple Store. As I look down on the parking lot at 9 PM this evening (12/23) the place is packed. People are shopping.
I don’t think we can count on Santa Claus to fill our dreams this year, we will need to do it ourself with creative efforts and positive thinking.

It’s no shocker; too many Santas in too many places. Kids aren’t buying it any more. They are buying Apple. Kids Rule

Santa Claus is DEAD! With this economy who would want to put his kid on Santa’s lap to hear a bunch of requests that even Santa cannot fulfill? This whole Christmas shopping thing is absurd. Bring on the New Year; parties are real.

Father Christmas is still very much alive here in South Africa, though I too saw a couple of ‘alone’ ones taking a well needed break from ho ho ho. Not sure that these days kids like sitting on strangers’ knees, (life has changed too much) and things are just different. BUT, Santa was handing out presents at the usual Christmas Tree Parties, kids were great to watch especially those below about age 6 and those just older who had just realised that he was not as real as they had thought him to be, were still buying in to the fact that he represents the goodwill, love, friendship and fun of the season, though they would not have used those words. PRESENTS more like it.
Having said that though, I read that there is a group of church people in the Cape who want to ban him. Oh dear to them I say, go to church and pray for yourselves, not for those of us who still look forward to having Santa in our lives (along with Ma Christmas and Elves and Fairies and Rudolph and Angels and Tinsle and all).
In connection with there being too many Santas in too many places, one of the shopping malls here allowed only one in the centre court of the mall, and he was busy like anything. I thought that was smart thinking by the mall management who had a sign near by saying (words to this effect) that this Santa was the official representative appointed directly from Lapland as due to the number of good children, Santa himself was too busy to get around the whole world in such a little time; and that Lapland hoped that all parents had taken note of the email circular sent earlier.
Perhaps Santa got an Apple for Christmas?
Cheers for the season to everybody,
