What Economy???

Aim At the Target
This msnbc article shows a photo of about 200 people lined up at the Salt Lake location and tells of more than 1,000 turning up at Kapolei for the opening of the first Target Stores in Hawaii on Wednesday morning.
It’s hard to beleive that these people are suffering so badly from the current “econimic crisis” that they decided to wait in line for hours to spend money they don’t have on things they don’t need. This is just one more example that people ARE spending money when motivated to do so. Too many retailers are sitting back and crying the blues about the econmomy rather than figuring out how to get people buying in their stores.

    Hii all from a distance!
This looks like a very exciting company to work for, especially like the Hawaiiana ‘Aloha’ section set up for the local climate, people and site etc. Makes a lot of sense that many haven’t thought about. One size fits all many times, but a bit of ‘me only’ goes a long way too and will keep the mother ship tuned into the needs and trends and whims and wants and buying habits of the locals. Smart retailing surely! Good luck to Target and good luck to all who sail in her - there must be a spare bottle of champagne somewhere?

I think we need a SuperGeeks service station in every Target.

The corporate logos are already congruent!

Hey there Chief Geek, why not suggest a ’store within a store’ concept and all. I looked around their website and they seem to be forward thinking and progresssive and keen on serving the customer. Just as your site does. It suggests too (just the site that is) that with a decent business proposal, they would listen. Can’t see why not, and the Hawaii site could be the tester for select stores on any/many of the 1699 or so they have already across the U S. Anyway, timing is all but nothing ventured is nothing gained as we know. Great deal more to say on this for branding, reputation, service, practicalities, staffing, independence of management systems etc etc and so on, but still.

Lotsa work ahead if you follow your own thoughts through…

    Cheers
