I’m Hooked

Totally Addicted!
Coffee is my last remaining vice, and I can (and do) drink it day and night. When my long time coffee maker died the other day I hustled right over to the mall to get a new one. I was actually excited about seeing the latest innovations in coffee makers.

Starbucks
My first stop was Starbucks. After a quick look at the few options they had, I decided that this was the one. I don’t remember the price, but it was about $80. I took it down from the shelf and began to figure out how to use it. I couldn’t get it open and nobody seemed interested in my interest, as they were all busy handling the line of people buying coffee. When it comes right down to buying anything I become quite impatient, so I put it back on the shelf and reluctantly walked into Macy’s.

Fancy
When I arrived at the houseware section I saw coffee makers as far as the eye could see. I didn’t see any salespeople however, which has become pretty much the norm at Macy’s. I reached for my iPhone to take a photo of this vast unattened area, imagining a sarcastic blog post. To my suprise I heard my name and saw Char, who has worked for at least two of my clients in the past. I asked her if she works here, and was thrilled when she said that she does. Not only did I have a salesperson all to myself, but a good one too. Char showed me the options, gave me the information needed and in less than 10 minutes I was out the door with my new $100 coffee maker. It does everything but the dishes. I found myself thinking, “This is the way it is supposed to be.” Do you agree with me?

I could never make up my mind when looking at coffee makers either. I don’t like high tech things because it takes so long to get in the learning curve. Maybe I just need a good saleperson.

Gevalia sends me coffee and new coffee makers whenever I need one. Did you know that the antioxidants in cinnamon and ginger are higher than in acai berries? Probably in cocoa powder too. Try adding the cinnamon to your coffee. Also, if you try eating a red apple first thing in the morning, it will wake you up too because it has one of the ingredients in CoQ10 and it is really good for the heart and getting the metabolism going. Some people don’t like coffee, so an apple is a good way to get up and start your day.

I hated coffee until I went to Rio De Janero when in my early twenties. When traveling, I always make sure I have apples handy, so I am awake enough to get the coffee.

When buying apples, I bring a knife and taste them, and then pay for all of them while choosing the most flavorful and crunchy. They are always well stocked at home. (So are the bags of coffee.) Apples are the first thing I go to in the supermarket. Ambrosias from New York state are my new favs. Me and the produce manager taste them together. Cut up with apples with cinnamon, ginger and stevia are awesome. Coffee has antioxidants also and is great for cleansing the liver. Coffee rocks, but so do apples. And having good service is the only way to shop. I would have done the same thing as you did in Starbucks. I even hate self serve at the gas station. We aren’t spoiled are we? No, we just want to get the most for our money and that includes good service. We don’t mind paying for it either.

Perhaps the Starbucks store assumed you would get some help, or understood how to use the coffee maker. Macy’s on the other hand knows you are not likely to get service, thus the product is still in the box so you can read them.

Part of the lack of service is consumers are not spending enough money and retailers feel the need to cut back on help. i think they should increase the help and stand out from all the other graveyards out there. I do feel for the owners. when people dont spend, they hurt and go out of business.
