Stress Relief in Five Little Minutes

Tick - Tick - Tick
The five minutes before you are supposed to be somewhere can be stressful or calm, and you get to decide which it will be. Needless stress is unhealthy, yet too many people experience it by simply arriving someplace at the last minute or even worse, late. Arriving at the last minute can leave you breathless, perspiring and stressed, with no time to mentally prepare. When you arrive late your reputation is tarnished, and depending upon the situation, lost business as well.
When you arrive just five minutes early, those five minutes can be spent relaxing and preparing for what you are about to do. I have this little “trick” I play on myself. I keep my watch five minutes fast. Although I have done this for many years, and I know well that it is fast, it still works. When I do arrive at the last minute (by my watch), I go, “Whew” and relax.
Try It! Life is too short to be stressed, and even shorter if you are.

You are so right TIME can be your enemy or your friend. Years ago Ron taught us well about time. Setting the clock back 5 minutes is a life saver. You are never late. When I was in the home party business getting there early made all the difference of success or failure. It’s also a plus for the nervous system. In today’s world it seems I save time through sales technology. But the time I save is now taken up by new higher tech products. I will get back to keeping my watch set 5 minutes back. I will live longer and not stress myself out by being late.

    Ron,

I know many that follow your practice (setting watches/clocks 5 to 10 minutes fast).

However, my practice is to schedule an early arrival. For example, I’m meeting a good friend for lunch at 11:30 am today. On my schedule, I’ve set the appointment for 11:20 am. So even if I’m 5 minutes late, I’m still 5 minutes early.

Another good friend taught his children: “If your 15 minutes early, you’re 15 minutes late.” I’ve decided to not adopt that practice!

Bottomline is to arrive early and relax for a few minutes before meetings.

i get into trouble when i get business calls right when i am on my way to an appt, calls that are very important financially and i cant seem to figure out the best way to say that i will call you back later, I am on my way out the door. Its hard to do when the person calling is pulls the trigger on a business deal, i end up saying to myself “hey, you better take the bird in hand now and apologize about being late to the other party. Anyone have comments on this predicament? I am sure i am not the only one!!

Hey Vidsolve; Just don’t answer the phone and then call back as soon as you can.
And Ramona; Set it forward, not backwards.
    Geeez!
