June Jones - What Direction?
Will He Cut and Run?
Colt Brennan passed up on potential NFL offers at the end of his junior year to stay and play for the UH Warriors. A big part of that decision was to support Coach June Jones. The two of them (and a host of others) combined to make history for Hawaii.
Now, as we look into 2008 we see Devon Bess passing on his senior year, Colt Brennan moving on to the NFL (hopefully) and the future of the UH football program back on June Jones to keep it going. The tough thing about coaching at the college level is losing those seniors and then finding a way to win without them next year.
According to some, June Jones may move along as well, leaving the program in a shambles.
I heard from an inside source that there was more discussion among the players in New Orleans about Coach Jones and 2008 than there was about beating the Bulldogs. If that’s the case, it explains their humiliating loss. If Coach Jones was considering other offers, the right thing to do would have been to keep that quiet until the game is over.
NEWS FLASH!!! This just in.
He quit today, blaming the athletic department. If it wasn’t for that $2 million dollar salary offer in Dallas I might buy his story. Besides that, following a 1-11 season will be much easier to look good than the 12-0 at UH. Think about that!

Ron has this guy pegged! Think about it… let’s see… $500,000, maybe even $700,000 or hell, even a million. Put that up against $2 million and it’s easy to see what the real reason is. He came into Hawaii when he couldn’t do any worse than his predecessor 0-12. Now when the real pressure is on he finds a 1-11 record to go to. He was overpaid at UH, and he will be overpaid at Southern Methodist as well.

It’s now apparent why June Jones couldn’t cut it in the NFL. Quitters don’t stay there!

This whole thing demonstrates the wisdom behind the old saying, “Money talks; bullshit walks”. Aloha Coach Jones, your bullshit was nice while it lasted. We will miss you over here; I’m sure you won’t miss us down at the bank.

JJ made a decision and decided to justify his personal choice by blaming others. His true character is displayed and he will have to look at that in his mirror every day. Is it possible that he just, “Couldn’t act like he belonged here.” any longeer because he has two million additional reasons to justify his behavior?

I think Arla has said it best. Let him chew a bit on his own words. I remember him telling us all how much he loves Hawaii and the people of Hawaii, that he was “home” here, and would never leave.
