June Jones - What Direction?

Will He Cut and Run?

Colt Brennan passed up on potential NFL offers at the end of his junior year to stay and play for the UH Warriors. A big part of that decision was to support Coach June Jones. The two of them (and a host of others) combined to make history for Hawaii.
Now, as we look into 2008 we see Devon Bess passing on his senior year, Colt Brennan moving on to the NFL (hopefully) and the future of the UH football program back on June Jones to keep it going. The tough thing about coaching at the college level is losing those seniors and then finding a way to win without them next year.
According to some, June Jones may move along as well, leaving the program in a shambles.
I heard from an inside source that there was more discussion among the players in New Orleans about Coach Jones and 2008 than there was about beating the Bulldogs. If that’s the case, it explains their humiliating loss. If Coach Jones was considering other offers, the right thing to do would have been to keep that quiet until the game is over.

NEWS FLASH!!! This just in.
He quit today, blaming the athletic department. If it wasn’t for that $2 million dollar salary offer in Dallas I might buy his story. Besides that, following a 1-11 season will be much easier to look good than the 12-0 at UH.  Think about that!

Celebrity Apprentice

Donald Trump Plays the Trump Card

“The Donald” is easy to dislike with his self serving pompous, egotistical ways, but one thing for sure, he does get results. I have not missed an Apprentice episode since watching the 2nd week of season one. I went out the next day and bought my DVR to be sure I wouldn’t miss one. I saw the show as a management training class and asked my clients and employees to all watch it. I had posters made saying, “What would Donald Trump do?”

Wonder Boy
Bill Rancic became the first Apprentice and was soon became a celebrity himself. Trump began bringing him back on camera to join his executives, George and Carolyn in the boardroom. Before Trump knew it Bill Rancic was out on his own speaking tour making the money that Trump paid him look like small change. That was it for last names.

omarosa.jpg

One Nasty Lady
Omarosa demonstrated that a single name was good enough and easier to remember. Omarosa was hated by most, yet so much fun to watch that they started finding people with “personality flaws” and outrageous character traits to liven things up.  Dropping the last names of contestants also prevented their personal celebrity when the season ended or they were fired in the boardroom. Each year the contestants became less and less likely to be someone Trump would want running one of his companies.

Camping Out in Beverly Hills
Last year was a disaster when the losing team was made to pitch tents in the backyard and cook outside while the winners in the mansion made fun of them through the fence. The Apprentice was slowly becoming a joke. People were beginning to write the show’s obituary. My interest was certainly falling away and I was less likely to ask someone to watch it. I thought it was over.

Could You Fire This Guy?
The Donald stuck his tongue out at the critics and introduced Celebrity Apprentice with a collection of Celebrities such as Gene Simmons of KISS and The Family Jewels fame. He even brought the nasty Omarosa back as a “celebrity” no less. The first show was a raging success, fun to watch and likely to succeed.
The Donald is The Man. He has performed miracles in real estate and now television. Dying reality shows are not likely to get new life. This one did. I suggest you watch it.

Sugar Bowl

Green Tears Flowed Everywhere

UH Warrior fans shed a lot of green tears while watching the Sugar Bowl on New Years Day. It has taken me until now to feel like writing anything about it. After a lot of hype and high hopes, the Georgia State Bulldogs handed the UH Warriors a loss no one (except maybe The Bulldogs) expected.
It was a tough game to watch, but the toughest part of all for me was seeing Colt Brennan sitting on the bench crying. With NFL scouts watching his every move, this was not the time to lose it emotionally. It was just one game. My guess is that those tears will cost him millions of dollars and probably a first round draft pick. Big boys may cry, but not during a football game, at least not in the NFL.

PS
I am A big Colt Brennan fan.

It’s Over!

 Aloha Santa Claus!

Santa has done his job and can now “hang loose” for most of 2008. For the rest of us it’s time to get back to work. The holidays get many people out of the “work mode”, and many struggle to make the transition back into it.

I have heard that what you do on New Year’s Day is what you are likely to do the rest of the year. That thought has always presented a challenge to me. There’s great football on TV as well as possible work to be done. My laptop has made this dilemma a little easier to deal with.

One of the most popular New Year’s Resolutions is to get to the gym and exercise more.

too-much-party.JPG

Too much fun at last night’s New Year’s Eve party can make that pretty tough to get up for.

Some have to work the next day and show up without waking up.

Others show up, but choose to do something other than what they are there for.

Our wonderful Hawaii weather has record crowds at the beach.
As difficult as it may be to get going in 2008, that time has come and the sooner you get with it the better off you will be.
