Finally something positive being done…
There’s no place in the world better to travel to than Hawaii. I found it refreshing to read this story in today’s Honolulu Advertiser. With so much whining about gas prices and hotel rates, and this and that, it’s about time that someone took an approach that is solution oriented. The creative efforts of John Monahan, HVCB president, are to be saluted. With businesses cutting back on everything they can think of to survive a “recession”, they are actually inviting it.

What a Product!
This is the time to be bullish, spend some money to get out there and Sell, Sell, Sell Hawaii.
To quote J.Paul Getty, “I buy when people sell”.

Spinach

All You Fans of Popeye Rejoice!!
This leafy vegetable provides you most of the nutrients your body requires.
Here are some of the properties of spinach:
-Spinach has the ability to lower the cholesterol level of the body
-It also increases your metabolism and thus helps you lose weight
-It helps in the process of creating blood as well as it helps stop bleeding thus making it an excellent remedy for nosebleeds.
-Spinach purifies the blood of the various toxins that cause skin disease
-It is rich in iron and chlorophyll
-It also contains vitamin A in large quantities, which makes it valuable in the treatment of night blindness.

Keep this in mind:
The body does not easily absorb the minerals iron and calcium in spinach.
Spinach contains oxalic acid, a chemical that binds with iron and calcium, thus reducing their absorption by the body. In order to improve iron absorption, one should eat Vitamin C rich foods such as orange juice, tomatoes and other citrus fruits along with spinach.

Ways to make spinach part of your diet:
-Fresh spinach can be used to make a tasty, healthy salad. Add some ripe tomato for the Vitamin C.
-You can add spinach to soups or dishes like lasagna
-Stir-fried spinach along with garlic, onions and red bell peppers make a fantastic side-dish.

When Hawaiian Accessoriries owner Curtis Willmington and wife Leslie throw a party, it’s a party! I was pleased to be a guest at this one last Saturday in their beautiful beachfront home. And in the Hawaiian tradition there was a lot of food, music and love. Mahalo Curtis and Leslie.

“Hawaii Hotels Charging for Amenities”

Blinded by Money
This story in today’s Honolulu Advertiser is just one more sign of businesses getting the pennies too close to their eyes. If you get them close enough you could be blinded to the opportunities in front of you.

The article quotes Starwood Hawaii’s spokeswoman Candice Kraughto as saying, “With a resort fee, hotel guests know the resort won’t nickel and dime you for special amenities, services or guest activities such Internet, shuttles, fitness center and parking…” I say it’s just the opposite. If they want to charge for these things, and are going to list them, they should be willing to deduct for those you do not use. I think the smarter way is to build whatever costs they want to charge into the room fee and then provide the amenites for “free”. Everyone likes free!
